The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a father and his son alongside other suspects during separate security operations that led to the recovery of four firearms across different parts of the state.
Police authorities said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives attached to different divisions within the command as part of ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime and illegal possession of weapons.
According to the police, one of the operations led to the arrest of a man identified as Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, after officers reportedly traced a stolen mobile phone to their residence.
During a search conducted at the property, officers allegedly recovered a locally made pistol and a dane gun hidden within the premises.
In another operation, police operatives attached to the Ilisan Remo Division reportedly recovered a locally fabricated pistol and a live cartridge during routine patrol activities around the Ilisan Remo area.
Authorities said the weapon was discovered abandoned and was immediately secured by officers while investigations began to identify those connected to it.
The police also confirmed the arrest of another suspect, identified as Inioluwa Adesanya, over the alleged theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident in Ode Remo.
Investigators claimed the suspect gained access to the residence while working around the property before allegedly stealing the firearm.
Police authorities further alleged that the suspect confessed during interrogation and admitted links to a cult group.
All recovered weapons and suspects have reportedly been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police commended officers involved in the operations and assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-driven operations against armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms across the state.
