Businessman Isaac Fayose has advised his elder brother and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, to decline his recent appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), arguing that the position does not reflect his political stature or experience.
Isaac made the appeal in a video posted on his social media platforms shortly after President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment of Ayo Fayose as part of a fresh round of appointments into federal agencies and commissions.
According to him, his brother has played a major role in Nigerian politics over the years and should not accept what he described as a position that falls below his level of influence.
He suggested that instead of taking up the appointment himself, the former governor should recommend someone younger to serve in the role, adding that such an opportunity could help develop the next generation of leaders.
Isaac praised Ayo Fayose’s political career, noting that he had twice governed Ekiti State and remained one of the country’s most recognised political figures.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for considering his brother for public service but maintained that the appointment was not the most suitable for someone with Ayo Fayose’s political background and experience.
President Tinubu had on Monday announced 26 appointments into 10 federal agencies and commissions, naming Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency Board alongside several other prominent Nigerians.
The appointment has generated mixed reactions, with supporters welcoming Fayose’s return to public service while others continue to debate whether the former governor should accept the position.
As of the time of filing this report, Ayo Fayose had not publicly responded to his younger brother’s advice or indicated whether he would accept or decline the appointment.
