The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of popular singer Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy. The police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a full and detailed investigation.
Police authorities said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the singer’s death. Destiny Boy was 22 years old at the time of his death.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the command had begun investigations immediately after the incident was reported.
He said, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
News of the singer’s death emerged on Sunday after videos showing his body being taken to a mortuary spread on social media, triggering widespread grief and speculation. In one of the clips, Destiny Boy was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils.
In another video that surfaced later, an unidentified associate of the singer attempted to calm public speculation, saying Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy started his music journey at a young age and became known for blending Fuji sounds with modern music. He trained at T2 Boys Studios in Agege and worked as a backup dancer for Fuji star Pasuma.
He gained nationwide attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral. He later dropped covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.
The late singer also released several original songs, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey. In November 2024, he welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide.
Police said further details would be made public as investigations progress.
